Chapter 26 Part 3 - Since I was reborn as Saito Yoshitatsu, I'm aiming to hand over the territory to Oda Nobunaga and live longer!

1537 (Tenbun era, year 6)
TL: Yuina

When it's time for a person to die, no matter how well-trained he or she is, they will still die. If the firearms that will be introduced in the future become widely used, samurai and swordsmen alike will perish without mercy.

Therefore, I try to train with my pageboys and some of the troops under my command to at least make it harder for them to die. Since I myself was not yet strong enough to carry out the surgery, the focus of my training was to build up my physical strength.

In other words, we practiced marathons. The training is hard, consisting of repeated descents and ascents up the mountain path to the castle, with a hydration station in the courtyard of the mansion also considered as a relay point.

Starting with those who are physically fit, they put on weights gradually. Eventually, we want them to be able to run 10 km without getting out of breath, even when fully armed.

We have also standardized the running form. I, myself, run in a different pattern each day, sometimes leading the race, sometimes swapping places with the leader, and sometimes following the tail of the pack.

"Okay......, let's call it a day."

"Thank you...... for your assistance......."

Tani Kotaro [1], one of the junior pageboys, would sprawl in the courtyard of the mansion at the end of each day, out of breath. The first time around, Okuda Shichirogoro Toshinao tried to admonish him for this, but when I told them that it was proof that he had done his best and that they should rather praise his for it, they said nothing after that.

These days, I can even afford to sit down and cool down properly. Wiping the sweat from my face and body with the hand towel that Sachi had brought, I felt that I have definitely progressed.

Once I get to a certain level of physical strength, I will have to polish my martial arts once again. I don't think I'll ever have to fight personally (and I don't want that to happen), but I still need to improve my own strength in case I wouldn't have the choice.

Incidentally, in my previous life, my martial arts class choice was judo. So I was taught swordsmanship and spear from scratch.

I had never done horse riding before, so it was hard to get used to it. I've been trying not to leave it up to Shinshichi lately, but I still haven't gotten used to it. But I'm too busy lately, so he ends up taking care of all the horses. However, he gets even more upset when I touch his horses. Is he a tsundere? No, he's more of a tsuntsun. With just a bit of dere[2]

Author's Note:

The more I look into the generational changes between the Honganji and Takada factions and Asakura's involvement in the Takada faction's struggle for successor, the more I wonder why the conflict between Toki and Asakura intensifies neatly at this point in time.

[1] Tani Kotaro - this character appeared previously in Chapter 18 Part 3. And most of the other characters also appear in Chapter 18, or in the Character Name Index.

[2] Tsundere (ツンデレ) comes from the words "tsuntsun" (ツンツン), a mimetic word for "irritable" or "grumpy", and "deredere" (デレデレ), meaning "lovey dovey".
