Chapter 26 Part 2 - Since I was reborn as Saito Yoshitatsu, I'm aiming to hand over the territory to Oda Nobunaga and live longer!
1537 (Tenbun era, year 6)
TL: Yuina Inabayama Castle provided first aid to soldiers injured in a skirmish with the Hongan-ji Temple, but they knew that they had to return as soon as treatment was over.
Especially since farmers and soldiers who have broken bones can not move around, so their strength is reduced regardless of the site of the fracture. They would have a hard time because they would have to do hard labor if they had to go back while, in this state, muscle weakness was inevitable.
If it's like this, what is needed is rehabilitation. Since it is necessary to produce some result in a short period of time, we decided to introduce Kaatsu Training [1]. Naturally, this is especially significant this time because it is highly efficient in a short time, but without the right knowledge, it will have the opposite effect. I decided to proceed only with patients within the range that I could manage.
Maybe I should train doctors specializing in Kaatsu Training in the near future.
It is not difficult to learn. All you have to do is to reduce blood flow to a certain degree and perform strength training using a thick leather strap instead of the belt that is normally used.
However, adjustments must be made based on the physical condition and original muscle strength of the person undergoing the training, so those who have not taken a specialized course to supervise this type of training should not take it lightly. If done incorrectly, it can cause congestion and nerve compression, which can be counterproductive. The phrase "correctly follow the dosage and administration" does not just apply to medicines.
I also asked a woodworker to make me crutches. After the body has healed to a certain extent, the muscles will lose strength at an accelerated rate unless the patient is able to move a little. Incidentally, the facility specializing in treatment and rehabilitation was located near the entrance to Inabayama Castle. It is easy for samurai to have their families come to visit them, and for patients to be carried in as well as, it is difficult for them to run away. One of the peasant-soldiers had once tried to go back to his village, though he had not finished his rehabilitation, but we were able to bring him back immediately because he had not regained enough strength to go down the hill by the castle. There was no way we would let him leave the hospital until he was fully healed.
After regaining his strength properly, the soldier was able to return to his former life with firm steps. I was so happy at that moment that I continued to work as a doctor, including emergency medical services. I died from overwork, though once.
It is said that my medical fame is steadily spreading in Mino Province and neighboring countries. Recently, a doctor came to me, wanting to be my apprentice. Since I didn't know who he was, I have declined for the time being, but when I think about it, it is inefficient to teach only it is inefficient to teach only the Nakarai brothers, Jurin and Zuishaku. Perhaps I should at least have someone with me to teach them various things so that they can organize themselves as proper medics. I heard that someone came with a letter of introduction, so maybe I should start with that person.
Recently, Zuisaku has become much more mature. After all, showing him the anatomy of a human body seems to have had some effect. Or maybe he just doesn't have the time to rebel anymore. Both of them are studying desperately because they cannot move on until they remember the content of the previous lectures.
[1] Kaatsu (Japanese: 加圧, often styled as KAATSU or KAATSU) is a patented exercise method developed by Dr. Yoshiaki Sato that is based on blood flow moderation exercise (or vascular occlusion moderation training) involving compression of the vasculature proximal to the exercising muscles by the Kaatsu Master device. (Thanks wiki! :v)
