Chapter 2 Part 2 - Since I was reborn as Saito Yoshitatsu, I'm aiming to hand over the territory to Oda Nobunaga and live longer!

The doctor's diagnosis was (on the basis of my previous life's standards) barely an amateur's work, even from a medical student's perspective. However, he could be considered to have decent skills in the Sengoku Period.

When I asked about the contents of the pill (a bitter herbal medicine shaped into a ball), he looked slightly troubled. Such knowledge wouldn't be commonly shared in this era, I suppose.

As a precaution, I was advised to rest for two days, and my mother seemed relieved for the time being. After she and the doctor left the room and I was left alone again, I tried to recall all the things I knew about the original owner of this body.

 Saito Yoshitatsu.

He had various names such as Isshiki Sakyo no daibu (master of the Eastern Capital Offices) and Hanka [1]. he had also many popular titles like his father, but he was most famous for having killed his father, Dosan, and for opposing Oda Nobunaga.

It seems that he was an outstanding character, and it is said that Nobunaga did not succeed in taking over Mino while Yoshitatsu was still alive.

Thinking so far, additional knowledge came to mind. This cheat is really convenient, but still pretty scary.

Dosan's assassination was carried out while Nobunaga's affairs were in disorder, that way Nobunaga couldn't help his father-in-law. Just before his death, Dosan sent a letter to transfer all his territory to Nobunaga, which became the righteous cause for Nobunaga's attack on Mino. Incidentally, according to a certain theory, it was Nagai Michitoshi, who was either this body's uncle or his older brother, who incited the murder of his father. Wait, a new piece of memory? It seems to be his uncle.

That's scary. What was he doing, plotting against his own family? I don't want to get involved in such matters.

Yoshiatsu is said to have contracted Hansen's disease and died at the age of 33.

What? At the age of 33?

Does that mean my life will be shorter in this world than in the last?

 I don't want that.

In my previous life, all I did was work, work and work, till the very end.

And now I have to live a life even shorter than that? Moreover, since I'm a Daimyo [2], there would be no days off, I'll have to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And on top of that, my opponent will be Oda Nobunaga. He won't give me any time to rest.

No, I don't want that. I want to live a long life in peace this time.

Then what should I do? That's when I recalled a short remark my father once told me.

"The letter of transfer... Yes. That's it."

Even though the original Yoshitatsu might have been able to fight against Oda Nobunaga, but I can't imagine that I would be able to.

In that case, I must find a solution to effectively transfer Mino to Nobunaga. Then, I'll retire and strive for a long and healthy life while taking all the necessary precautions to prevent that illness.

With a better hygiene and more advanced medical knowledge, it should be possible somehow. I can extend my assistance to some of Nobunaga's vassals who historically succumbed to illness, it would demonstrate to Nobunaga that I am not disregarding my brother-in-law.

Are there such people in Toyotomi Hideyoshi's [3] clan as well? it should be safe even in the unlikely event of an incident like Honno-ji [4].

 Well then, it's decided.

In order to live a long life, I will surrender Mino to Oda Nobunaga.

Author's Notes:

The cheat that came with the reincarnation (although it is more similar to a possession in this case) is the ability to remember all the memories and knowledge he saw even just once in his previous life. It's quite powerful, but without this ability, I believe it would be difficult to advance the field of medicine even as a physician...

[1] Yoshitatsu is said to have named himself "Hanka" after subjugating Dosan. "Hanka" is a person who killed his father due to unavoidable circumstances in the Tang Dynasty of China, and Yoshitatsu is said to have come to use this name because of his similar circumstances. However, the actual facts related to "Hanka" have not been confirmed. In addition, Yoshitatsu claimed to be "Hanka" even before actually killing Dosan.

[2] Daimyo is a generic term referring to the powerful territorial lords in pre-modern Japan who ruled most of the country from their vast, hereditary land holdings. In the term, "dai" literally means "large", and "myō" stands for myōden, meaning private land. Subordinate only to the shogun, daimyo were the most powerful feudal rulers from the 10th century to the middle 19th century in Japan.

[3] Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1536 – 1598) was a Japanese samurai and daimyo (feudal lord) of the late Sengoku period regarded as the second "Great Unifier" of Japan. (from wiki) So he's kind of the same as Nobunaga. Then, I guess our MC is planning to hold the thighs of all the influential people...

[4] The incident at Honnō-ji refers to an event that took place on June 21, 1582, where the temple in Kyoto was attacked by forces led by Akechi Mitsuhide. During this attack, Oda Nobunaga, who was staying at Honnō-ji at the time, was forced to commit suicide. It marked a significant turning point in Japanese history and the end of Oda Nobunaga's rule. So the MC just wants to reinforce his backing just in case. If Nobunaga fell again, he'd still be able to rely on Hideyoshi.
