Chapter 21 Part 3 - Since I was reborn as Saito Yoshitatsu, I'm aiming to hand over the territory to Oda Nobunaga and live longer!

1536 (Tenbun era, year 5)

I went to take a look around the market. Since paper was sold to merchants of Edamura in Omi Province for the Kinai region, large transactions at this market are often sold to wholesalers in Kuwana on the premise that the paper will be transported by river. If it is a small quantity, since the border with Rokkaku is stable now, the Honai merchants can join in, but because paper is bulky and heavy, boat transportation still seems to be more common. So after a large amount of Mino paper was made, it was sent by boat to the Kansai area [1].

"So, from now on, we will also deal in Mino paper together with some soap."

It was Ohashi Genzaemon Kadoshige who greeted me with a smile plastered on his face. It seems that he has a close relationship with the Oda clan of Tsushima, and that his son will soon marry the daughter of Oda Saburo Nobuhide.

"I have already talked to the people of Edamura and Honai about extending to the Tokaido and Owari areas. I'd also like to ask Saji-sama and Mizuno-sama for their cooperation."

Therefore, it seems that soaps and Japanese paper can be sold in the Owari area in the future. Since we agreed to make up the shortage of seaweed and oil via Tsushima, the economic ties between us will become stronger. It's great to have Tsushima's oil guild on our side.

Just as I was about to return to Toyo's place since we had nothing more to discuss, I heard a scream from breaking out a short distance away.

"What's going on?"

"A merchant has fallen in the street."

"Dembei! Dembei, what's the matter!?"

I sent one samurai and one Kosho to check the situation. They found that a merchant from Kuwana had collapsed on his stomach. I was told that he was groaning and in extreme pain, and so my body reflexively moved on its own.

"Get out of the way!"

"Young Master! You never know what might happen."

"We can't just leave people suffering like that!"

When I broke through the center of the crowd, I found a man that looked like a merchant in his late thirties bent over and shouting inaudibly.

Author's Note:

Oyada is originally a Japanese paper-only market, but I wondered how stable the paper market was when it could be held six times a month with only selling paper.

So you can notice how the Japanese paper market at that time was stable and large.

Soap is sold as a trial this time with permission from the governor-general Toki Yorinari.

The Saito clan is extremely suitable for making soap because its strong connections with the oil guilds.

[1] Kansai (literally west of the tollgate) in its original usage refers to the land west of the Ousaka Tollgate (逢坂関), the border between Yamashiro Province and Ōmi Province (present-day Kyoto and Shiga prefectures). During the Kamakura period, this border was redefined to include Ōmi and Iga Provinces.
